Rishikesh - The Yoga capital of the World

Rishikesh, a holy city for Hindus, is scenically located where the Ganges River comes down from the Himalayas. The city had gained international popularity when the Beatles (a pop and rock band formed in 1960) paid a visit to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram. Since then, Rishikesh has been full of backpackers from around the world in search of peace and serenity.

The place is not only popular with backpackers, but also a lot of Indian tourists as it is the religious gateway to the popular Char Dham Yatra (Pilgrimage) - Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

The place is full of ashrams and meditation and Yoga centres like OSHO and Vivekenanda. They are a favourite amongst backpackers and other travellers. Rishikesh is the new generation place to be. You can, on one side, learn Sitar or Tabla in the evening and practice Yoga in the morning with the soothing sound of the Ganges flowing behind you.

Tips & Articles
Adventure sports and mountains go hand in hand, and in India, we're blessed with a lot mountains. Of course, we have the Himalayas, but there are smaller mountain mountain ranges all over the country.

The word yoga literally means "to unite" and the aim of the discipline is to help the practitioner unite his or her individual consciousness with the divine. This is achieved by

Rafting and Kayaking. India has some of the greatest rivers in the world, and this lends for some amazing water sports.

Hey guys!

My plan is to visit South India (the region of Kerala) in October and November of 2013. I'm planning to stay in ashrams for few weeks and after that I'd like to see some sights.

Since it's my first time in India I would really like to get some tips and tricks on how to find some trustworthy companions for my trip, where to stay and what to look out for.

Any suggestions?

I am planning to go on this trek. So if anyone can share information on the difficulty level of this trek, it would be great. I am an amateur at trekking and have only done the Dzongri trek in Sikkim. Compared to it, how difficult or easy will this trek be?
Also if someone can let me know the ease of booking porters and supplies at Gangotri. During the Dzongri trek, I managed to book porter, cook and supplies (food, sleeping bags, tent etc.) at the base, Yuksom. Is it a similar scenario here also?

And yes, I'm looking for people interested to join in.
