5 Common Mistakes of First-Time Backpackers in India

Backpacking across India can be a lot of fun but a few common mistakes can make it a bit uncomfortable for you.

Here’s a list that would tell you about the common mistakes backpackers make while backpacking around India.

1. Packing Too Much
DO NOT FORGET you would be carrying your backpack along with you almost everywhere, may it be for hiking, camping or even just walking the streets of New Delhi or running from one platform to another at the railway station and it is advised to pack it as light as possible.
Giving up on thick guidebooks and simply taking a printout of all the backpacking information of your next destination from our website is advisable.
Extra clothes can be kept at home and not be stuffed in your backpack. You can always buy anything essential in most of the Indian cities.
While carrying around a heavy and huge backpack everywhere is bad enough, a worst nightmare is to find new ways to cram up things in your backpack thereby causing even more trouble for yourself.
Plan and leave a bit of extra space in your backpack for souvenirs that you are bound to pick up in a country like India which is full of inexpensive and beautifully designed souvenirs.

2. Too Little Research
Before you head to India, it is advised to research and get to know every detail you can find about it.
India has a lot of cultures, languages and people. It is advisable to at least know the basic greeting’s like “namaste” (meaning hello) and other such words.
The more research you do before coming to India, the better you will enjoy your trip. Guaranteed

3. Trying to see way more than planned

India in itself is a place that needs at least a minimum of 2 years to go through every city and discover the true India and therefore it is impossible to do so in a short backpacking trip.
The case is same with every city as well, there is just too much to see and taste and thus it is advisable not to be over ambitious and try to see everything in a short time in a single trip instead enjoy calmly every place with peace of mind, so that the memories remain for long.

4. Getting Stuck Without Money
Getting stuck with no money is one of the worse situations for travelers. Make sure you have at least more than one way to access money on the road. A debit card/credit card can be a convenient option, but keeping some traveler’s checks is not a bad idea either , along with cash. Store your money in separate places (pockets & backpacks) and always have a backup plan in case your belongings are lost/stolen.

5. Choosing the wrong Travel companion
Your whole backpacking trip in India can be ruined if you choose a wrong partner to go along with. A backpacking journey if full of adventure and excitement, if your companion isn’t the backpacking types or is scared to try new things, specially the cuisines of India( which is a must) then you might want to re-consider your decision.
