Why should you visit India, and what are the benefits for travelers in India?

It´s simple. In the midst of colorful beauty, chaos and strong contrasts, India provides travelers cheap accommodation, and cheap Indian food for less than a dollar. In other words, backpacking in India is the perfect place for budget-minded travelers. When you use less money on accommodation and food, you can actually afford visiting beautiful attractions in the country! And believe me, there are hundreds of places in India you have to visit! It can be anything: from stop-over in the lovely tea gardens of Darjeeling, holy sites of Varanasi and New Delhi, back-waters of Kerala, trekking around Ladakh, learning the art of Indian cooking in Goa and so much more.

Backpacking in India will surely open your eyes for the heartwarming local culture, by talking and getting to know Indians. By taking the step to open yourself to the local community, like volunteering at the Mother Teresa Center in Calcutta or just chitchatting with friendly locals, it can change your life forever. You´ll be amazed by the way many Indians treat their guests: they give even if they have nothing to share.

This means that you will not only learn about India´s rich history and culture, but you, as a traveler in India, will learn a great deal about yourself. As for personal growth, you´ll enhance your ability to tolerate a foreign culture, test your patience, and most importantly: backpacking in India will put your perspective of the way of living in a totally different way. After you´ve gone backpacking in India, you will most likely treasure the things you took for granted and reconsider your view of cost and worth in life…

These are my personal experiences from India, and I wouldn´t mind coming back again! ;-)
